The Little Raven (Corvus mellori) is the most common Corvid in Australia’s southern states.

This is my first “crow” and I’m pretty pleased with him.

This is a mother and baby dolphin breaching the water. Wire, chicken wire and preserved Tea Tree (firewood).

This timber really does remind me of the wave action on the ocean and my local waters of Port Phillip Bay. I will be doing a series of Dolphins on similar timber. I just have to search for the right piece which does take a long time to clear of its bark!

This is wire representation of an Australian magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen). Magpies spend countless hours strolling over the ground looking very intently for whatever may be crawling around. They have brilliant eyesight and detect the slightest movement on the ground or even just under it.

This piece was commissioned by a magpie lover.

There is no more Australian sound than the laugh of the Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) . The sight of a kookaburra sitting on telegraph wire looking down for its next meal is common in all but the most urban Australian environments.

This is a life-size commissioned piece on a piece of broken redgum (sanded and oiled to a very fine finish), that I just love.

I have been asked to make more kookaburras than any other bird.

NOT FOR SALE - But I would be happy to make you a kookaburra if you want to contact me.

These graceful beauties are one of the longest lived reptiles on Earth living up to 80 years and live in all tropical and subtropical oceans.

I really wanted to give a sense of the creases in the turtle’s neck which are so key to their look and was struggling until I decided to use some copper wire. Problem solved I decided to go even further with the copper and really like the end result.

This is a wire sculpture of two superb fairy wrens happening upon each other on a piece of preserved lavender bush, mounted on a redgum base.

I love the piece which is the first of a series of wren pairs that I plan to do to make the most of interesting gnarled wood that I find in my travels. I have a number of great little pieces of wood already that will be hosting wrens and other small birds in order to give the wood a new life.

This piece is for sale Contact me if you are interested.

This is a simple wire sculpture of a foraging superb fairy wren on a redgum base.

I keep coming back to making these simple birds where the outline is really the only necessary image we need to know what we are looking at.

This is a Pied Cormorant (Phalacrocorax varius) A native Australian waterbird found all around our coast and waterways. They are excellent swimmers, hunting fish underwater and are a familiar sight standing on posts or rocks drying their feathers in the sun.

I have now found a beautiful old piece of Mornington Pier complete with a “closed” sign, to locate this guy on. Any number of cormorants would have stood in this exact position on this post before I came along. Very happy with this!!

This sculpture is life size: 90cm x 80cm x 40cm excluding the timber.

The Superb Lyrebird (Menura novaehollandiae) is a fascinating creature, with a courtship display of mimicked song and rippling dance like no other bird. If you have ever had the privilege of seeing the display of the lyrebird you’ll know it’s something that stays with you forever.

This piece is a homage to this experience and, mounted on an Australian red-gum base, can be displayed indoor or outdoors, moving beautifully in the wind. Its legs are robust and this piece will withstand all normal weather conditions and move beautifully in your garden.

Superb fairy wren (Malurus cyaneus)

This is a wire sculpture of two fairy wrens on individual branches. I love the absence of fill in their bodies, which I feel is unnecessary. I love that the outlines of the birds give a sense of movement and our mind fills in the blanks.

Base made from a stave of an old whisky barrel.

Rainbow lorikeet (Trichoglossus moluccanus)

Wire sculpture of a Lorikeet, the cheeky and rowdy social chatterbox that arrives the second the fruit is ripe and sweeps your hair over your eyes before you’ve had a chance to realise they’ve flown past. Rainbow lorikeets feed mainly on fruit, pollen, and nectar and possess a unique tongue adapted for their particular diet.

Set on an oiled red-gum base, this sculpture size is true to life.

Splendid fairywren (Malurus splendens)

Less is more.

This one-off wire sculpture captures a moment of curiosity of one of Australia’s smallest native birds. “Blue wrens” are an incredibly fast moving and active bird. We don’t often see them standing still.

Set on a polished natural red-gum base.

Australian Magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen)

Wire sculpture of an Australian magpie standing to attention, ready to catch something to eat or make a getaway. It is one of my favourite sculptures due to the simplicity, yet familiarity, of its stance.

Standing on a redgum base, rescued from my firewood pile.

Superb fairywren (Malurus cyaneus)

Two wire sculpture blue wrens, perched on a small gum tree branch.

Fairywrens rarely sit still - a flicker of blue, and they're already gone.

They live in small family groups and rarely stray far from cover, moving low and fast through the undergrowth rather than in the open.

The base is rescued redgum and a preserved eucalypt branch.

Sulphur Crested Cockatoo (Cacatua galerita)

Cockatoos travel the country in vast numbers. A flock of “Cockies” swooping in to land onto an unsuspecting tree is a quintessentially Australian scene. Their raucous calls are notoriously loud; built to travel through the forest environments that they live in.
