This is a Pied Cormorant (Phalacrocorax varius) A native Australian waterbird found all around our coast and waterways. They are excellent swimmers, hunting fish underwater and are a familiar sight standing on posts or rocks drying their feathers in the sun.
I have not permanently fixed this piece to the timber as I’m on the lookout for an old bollard which would look at home on a shoreline somewhere. That’d be the perfect stand for him.
This sculpture is life size: 90cm x 80cm x 40cm including the timber.
